Four Generations of Photography in Kefalonia
I’m Dionysis Petratos, born and based in Kefalonia, an island that continues to shape the way I see and photograph.
Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a family of photographers shaped my instinct for observing people, light and the quiet in-between moments.
Today, my work is rooted in documentary photography and drawn to emotion, movement and contrast. I follow the day as it develops, stepping in with guidance only when it is genuinely useful.
When I photograph a wedding, I’m not trying to construct a version of the day. I want the photographs to reflect it as it was experienced.
A FAMILY STORY ROOTED IN KEFALONIA
My great-grandfather was among the first photographers on the island. Since then, each generation has added its own chapter.
The tools have changed.
The intention has not.
What I carry forward is more than a family name. It is also a responsibility to keep evolving while respecting the people who trust me to photograph them.
Today, I focus primarily on wedding photography in Kefalonia, working with couples who choose the island for more than just its scenery.
Alongside weddings, I photograph a small number of baptisms, couple sessions and intimate family gatherings, always with the same attention to people, light and the moments that happen naturally between them.
For me, the scale of an event may change. The approach behind photographing it never does.
